FBT MUSE - Self-Powered Line Array System

Introducing MUSE, the new self-powered line array from FBT. MUSE is scalable and is suitable for a wide range of applications from simple ground-stack events to flown (up to 16 elements deep) systems for large events. Both the line array element and subwoofer are self-powered with integrated DSP for maximum flexibility and ease of use. Rear panel presets cover a wide range of stacked and flown configurations and EASE Focus 2 software allows you to work out the best angles and trim height prior to the event.

Each MUSE element comprises two 10” custom-designed woofers with 64mm high excursion voice coils and two custom B&C HF compression drivers with 1” throat. The waveguide, optimised via a series of simulations using BEM finite elements to eliminate distortion, boasts a horizontal dispersion of 90°.

FBT has also applied its Italian design expertise to the cabinet, creating an enclosure that is equally rugged, practical and stylish. Constructed from 15mm Birch plywood, each MUSE element incorporates two die-cast aluminium handles and fully integrated hardware to suit any application. Up to 16 MUSE enclosures can be flown with ease in a single array, boasting a safety factor of 10:1. Each cabinet can be splayed in 1° increments.

Inside the box, power is courtesy of the convection-cooled, 600 +300W RMS Class-D amplifier module, housed in a protective, fully sealed die-cast aluminium chassis. Meanwhile the on-board DSP offers a choice of eight presets, allowing users to easily configure their MUSE system depending on the curvature of arrays and the number of elements used.

To extend the low frequency performance of a MUSE system, users can benefit from the matched subwoofer – the SubLine 218SA, which is ideal for ground-stacking. Each SubLine218SA incorporates two 18” B&C woofers and a 1200W Class-D amplifier with a switch-mode power supply.

Earthworks Installed Sound Microphones for Audio Brands Australia

Audio Brands is pleased to announce its appointment as the distributor for the new Installed Sound Microphone line from US based manufacturer, Earthworks. Earthworks is best known for their very high-end studio, live and measurement microphones and has recently applied that technology to the installation market.

The installation range includes choir mics, gooseneck mics, as well as mics designed to be mounted into conference tables or ceilings. The latest additions to the Installed Sound line include gooseneck and boundary microphones, which are available with the LumiComm™ Touch Ring―a dual-colour LED with touch sensor output which can be seamlessly integrated with third-party control systems.

High intelligibility, uniform frequency response on or off-axis, fast impulse response and a pure signal path are features found in every Earthworks microphone. When combined, the result is an uncoloured high gain microphone with benchmark levels of intelligibility and resistance to feedback.

Don McConnell, Director of Audio Brands Australia, commented: “Earthworks enjoys a reputation as being a leader in microphone technology and we’re very pleased to introduce their new installation line.”

Jeff Shoesmith, Sales Engineer from Audio Brands Australia added:  “Many installation mics offer decent on-axis frequency response, but behave quite differently as little as half way into their published pickup angle, particularly in the higher octave bands. Earthworks microphones are true to their specification and offer a much wider usable pickup angle without spotlighting. This uniform polar behaviour also provides much greater gain before feedback. If you’re a designer who appreciates the importance of quality sound, we encourage you to compare Earthworks installed sound microphones with your current favourites, you will experience performance you never thought possible in an installed mic form factor. ”

Heidi Blackmer Robichaud, President and CEO of Earthworks added: “We are thrilled about the appointment of Audio Brands Australia. Their experience within the installation market will make them excellent partners in promoting Earthworks’ technically advanced and problem solving Installed Sound Products.”

The new Earthworks Installed Sound line redefines the benchmark for installation microphones. All are made in the USA and come with a 15 year warranty.

FBT and Pat Rafter Arena

The Queensland Tennis Centre is located in Tennyson, Brisbane, Australia and consists of twenty three international standard tennis courts. The centre court, Pat Rafter Arena, boasts a new speaker system from the FBT Shadow series.

The system was installed in December 2013, just in time for the Brisbane International, which sees the world’s best players descend on Brisbane. Record crowds were reported for the event, now in its sixth year, with over 105,000 fans attending the tournament over eight days.

The new system is based on a distributed design using a mix of FBT Shadow 112CT and 112HC speakers. Both models feature a 12”/1” coaxial driver with the 112HC being horn-loaded for longer-throw applications. The FBT Shadow series are rated to IP55 and are designed for extreme weather conditions. They are made from a single piece rotomolded enclosure, and also include stainless steel hardware and a unique water-stop grill. The Shadow series provide highly intelligible speech and quality music playback. The Shadow Series is a family of outdoor rated speakers from a 5”/1” through to 8” and 12” coaxial models, plus a flyable subwoofer and a high SPL outdoor line array system.

The Pat Rafter Arena has a seating capacity of 5,500 and acoustically is difficult due to the open air nature of the venue. Quite a bit of time was spent in the design phase with EASE simulation software, working on the best speaker locations and angles - the aim being to provide consistent coverage whilst minimising reflections.

The system was supplied to the installation company in under 3 weeks and was one of the first sales by new FBT distributor, Audio Brands Australia.

Introducing Audio Brands Australia

Audio Brands Australia is open for business!

Audio Brands Australia is a new Sydney based audio distributor focused on the installation and production markets. Headed up by industry veteran, Don McConnell, (who has over 25 years of experience in the Australian commercial and professional audio markets), the goal of Audio Brands Australia is simple; to provide great products and outstanding customer service.

When asked about his motivation for starting his own company, Don replied, “I have been in the audio industry all of my working life and I am still very passionate about the market and the people working in it. The timing is right to break out on my own and I’m pleased to be able to do it representing such a great catalogue of products”.

Importantly, Audio Brands Australia has been appointed the exclusive Australian distributor for the Italian based audio equipment manufacturer FBT. Commenting on this appointment, Don said, “Audio Brands is very pleased to be representing FBT in Australia. FBT is already well known for their range of moulded speakers and we are looking forward to introducing their latest ranges of self-powered products as well as their extensive range of installation speakers”.

Roberto Mataloni, export manager for FBT enthused, “We are delighted to have Audio Brands Australia as our new distributor 'down under'. We knew that Don was well known and respected in the Australian audio market, so we jumped at the chance to work with him and his new company. We are looking forward to a long and mutually rewarding partnership between our two companies”.

Following a recent visit to the FBT headquarters in Recanati, Italy, Don commented, “The FBT facility is very impressive, as are the people behind the company and its products. Most of their speakers are built entirely in-house using predominantly European components, including B&C drivers in many of their products. Their design techniques, build quality and testing processes are amongst the best I have ever seen”.

The FBT installation range will be a key initial focus for Audio Brands and includes the Project series (for café’s, pubs and the like), the Shadow series of IP rated outdoor speakers (including an outdoor line array), as well as the MLA and DLA digitally steered column speakers. Additionally, the self-powered Mitus and Vertus line arrays offer outstanding performance for their size and should be popular with both installation and production companies. “We are very much looking forward to introducing these great products to our customers” said Don.

To complete the signal chain, Audio Brands is also offering a range of power amplifiers, self-powered speakers, stands, cables and general audio accessories under the Kempton brand. Still more brands will be introduced over the coming months, making Audio Brands a true ‘solutions shop’ for their contracting and pro audio customers.

Audio Brands Australia can be contacted on 0499 828 521, or via email at sales@audiobrands.com.au. Dealership inquiries are welcomed.
